We chose a sustainability theme because of the ever-increasing necessity of it in our world today.

Art is an effective, moving, and accessible platform perfect for placing importance on sustainability and the protection of our Earth, drawing attention to the consequences of our actions, and stimulating meaningful change through those who take something away from experiencing the art.
In an academic environment that already successfully imprints the importance of sustainability on its student and faculty body, there is no better place to hold an event that inspires the general Emory community to use their knowledge of climate change and sustainable action to go out into the greater Atlanta, U.S., and global community to make a difference.
Because art is usually in the foreground when any kind of cultural change is occurring, this event can be that push to further encourage Emory’s community to come together and take action on sustainability collaboratively.

We believe that Hack-a-thon participants and onlookers can collectively be involved in the creation of a stronger Emory community that seeks to be not only a national example, but even a global example of the impact that creativity can have on solving such exasperatingly large problems like global warming, air and water pollution, and climate change.
